Frequently Asked Questions

What is Wormly?

Wormly is an in-ground worm farm that turns your household food scraps into nutrient-rich compost right where your plants need it most. Installed directly into your garden beds, Wormly allows composting worms to break down food waste naturally, improving soil health and reducing the amount of organic waste sent to landfill.

How does Wormly work?

Simply install Wormly into your garden soil, add food scraps, and let composting worms do the rest. The worms consume your food waste and produce nutrient-rich worm castings that flow directly into the surrounding soil - feeding your plants naturally from below. No turning, no mess, no odours.

What can I put into Wormly?

You can add most common kitchen scraps including fruit & vegetable scraps, coffee grounds, tea bags (remove the tea from the bag), crushed eggshells, bread, pasta, rice, and cardboard (brown type, plastic removed). Avoid meat, dairy, oily or fatty foods, citrus in large quantities, and spicy foods such as onion, garlic & chilli.

Will it smell?

No — when used correctly, Wormly should not smell. Beneficial microbes in the surrounding soil help break down organic matter efficiently, preventing unpleasant odours. If it does smell, it's usually being overfed or needs more carbon-rich material like shredded cardboard or dry leaves.

Do I need to add worms?

Yes — Wormly works best with composting worms such as Tiger Worms (Red Wigglers).

Will worms escape into my garden?

Yes — and that's actually a good thing! Composting worms naturally move between the Wormly unit and the surrounding soil, helping distribute nutrients throughout your garden bed. They always return to your Wormly as long as you keep adding food scraps.

Is Wormly made from plastic?

No — Wormly is made from PLA, a plant-based biopolymer derived from renewable resources like corn starch. Unlike traditional petroleum-based plastics, PLA is designed to break down under industrial composting conditions.

Will Wormly breakdown in my garden?

Wormly is designed to remain durable in normal garden conditions. PLA requires sustained temperatures of around 50°C+ to begin breaking down — conditions typically only found in industrial composting facilities.

How long does installation take?

Most people install their Wormly in under 15 minutes. Simply dig a hole, place the unit into the soil, backfill around it, and you're ready to start composting.

Where should I install Wormly?

Wormly works best when installed in garden beds, vegetable patches, raised planters, or around fruit trees. Avoid installing in direct sun, compacted clay, or areas that flood frequently.

How much food waste can it process?

A healthy population of composting worms can consume up to half their body weight in food scraps each day. Over time, your Wormly will become more efficient as the worm population grows.
